The Half a Century cake

Here is the cake I made my mum for her 50th birthday. I have never decorated any cakes previously to this. I was inspired to make one for her as she has always made one for me each birthday. She is so amazing and creative that I’m happy to say I get all of my creative merit from her.

The cake took me a whole day to decorate as I wanted it to look perfect. I wanted to show her how much I appreciate her doing it for me every year, however it was a very impromptu creation. First I started with a rose pattern out of cream icing but this did not stick to the two marble cakes I had made. So I scraped that off and replaced it with hard icing and as the day went on I just kept playing around with different shapes and finding different objects that would help create the cake, I brought some kids number stensils from Riot for 49 cents to create the 50's. I think I did well with the decorations and it really did look amazing on the day!

Lesson learned: some of the best creations happen organically, planning is not always necessary.

The cake for my mum everything is edible apart from the cupcake patties and the candel

Here is a cake my mum made for her sister’s wedding and I have to say it is the most magical and most inspirational cake I have ever seen. Oh! The best thing is that everything is edible apart from the extensions to the smaller cakes

The Best Present

Below is just one of the many lovely presents my boyfriend has given me. This one amazed me, I received what looked like a small soft drink can with the instructions to water it and eventually a message will appear. I did what I was told and in a matter of weeks a type of plant formed, which reminded me of a bean stalk and on the bean part was scripted the message “I Love you" appearing on one side and a love heart shape on the other. I thought it was such a good invention and such a romantic gesture.
Guys take note, this is the cutest and one of the most romantic gifts I have ever received and if you can’t think of what to get your partner for a special occasion or you want something different then the norm this is the perfect gift.

the message plant can be found at the Australian Geographic store

Bargain Hunter/Shop o Holic

That's right! I love to shop for an item of interest at a bargain price. I get a great kick out of knowing what I have saved on that particular item.
Here are my Bargain Tips, my secrets to saving money on the Items I want.
beware of what I like to call the Cycle Clothing Chain...(the 3 C's applies to most stores) let me explain.
There is an item that you really really want, you know that suites you but the price is out of your budget. Instead of buying it in the moment right there and then and probably being in a bit of debt afterwards, why not wait for awhile. Be patient, like everything patience is the key and it does pay off!
Now starts the clothing cycle the item finds itself at 25% off then 30% off then back to full price then repeats again and then to clearance then finally to 50% off and then drastically reduced to 75% off. I normally only purchase when the item hits the last markdown! these clothes are not "bin" clothing, rather the same item that was full price and you wanted to buy early on. Another example to save money, closer to the end of a season the stock will be reduced, purchase this reduced stock for next season as you will find that clothing repeats itself and these items will probably find them selves back at full price. If you want to play it safe and save money purchase items that are timeless or basic you can never go wrong with a Little black dress.
You might not necessarily wear each item but purchasing it at such a price you wont feel as guilty.

I like to follow my own trend and not the trend of the person sitting next to me on the train. If  life has taught me anything it's important to identify yourself and be yourself. For example I love bright colourful clothing I'm not a fan of the beige or pale pallet of colours, they simply don't suite me. Buy things that suite not because your best friend is wearing them. I do not buy because of the brand name I buy because I like the piece or item.

This is how I shop.

department stores I get the best bargains from
Myer and Target

Myer at the moment has 75% off the already reduced prices on men’s board shorts
Brought my boyfriend four pairs for $6.25 normally $50.00 - If you are near the Melbourne city Myer it is located opposite side to the men’s shoes

75% off womens shoes in the Myer Melbourne city store you can pick up a pair of summer shoes for 10 dollars

75% off womens swim wear,  such brand as Cozi and also Misshop

and 75% off party dresses in the womens clothing section. Picked up some amazing dresses for 20 dollars and under

happy shopping

Hello all this is my very first blog post and I’m very excited to share with you what I intend to do on my one day off every week. I want to express my love for creativity and share with the world my ideas. I want my blog to define me, my personality and showcase my design abilities and my passion for the craft whether it is painting, singing or even baking a cake! I want everyone to see what I love to do and hopefully inspire others whilst doing so.
